What you need to know about our ABS-CAS rigid plastic and the LABoxx™ containers made from it.
LA Container offers many types of ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) plastic materials. One of them is CAS-ABS and it stands for Conductive Anti-Static Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. It is a conductive material that will ground the container to the work surface it is touching. This allows containers made of this material to be able to discharge any static build up very quickly from the surface of the material. Since it is conductive, the surface resistivity is less than 1×106 ohm/sq and surface resistance that is less than 1×105ohm. A voltage from 5kV to 50V will decay in less than 2 seconds.
Typically, ESD containers are used for the storing of static sensitive items, such as electronics, as it can help protect against the buildup of static, which can cause expensive damage. With conductive materials, it will ground faster than dissipative materials, and static will flow in a rapid manner, starting with no initial charge. Conductive materials will help prevent static discharge when humans are in contact with the plastic containers and can help keep the static charge minimal when containers are being moved around.
These conductive cases are based on the rigid acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic, which creates a very sturdy and protective plastic container. The combination of these plastics creates our LABoxx™ container line. These USA made ESD plastic boxes are available in 5 different size options and feature an attached lid with two-piece construction that keeps your contents safe and airborne contaminants out. The CAS LABoxx™ containers come in an opaque black color, not allowing a person to see into the container without opening it.
All of our conductive plastic is tested under ASTM D257, ANSI/ESD STM11.11, and FTMS101C 4046.1 before molding at the manufacturer, and the surface resistivity and static decay are reverified after molding using the ACL Staticide 880 and Prostat PDT-740B respectively for their test.
