What Is ABS-BAS
LA Container offers many types of ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) plastic materials. One of them is ABS-BAS and it stands for Blue Anti-Static Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. It is an electrostatic dissipative material that will dissipate the static buildup that is formed on the surface of the container. The material is slightly conductive with a surface resistivity between 1×1010ohm/sq to 1×1012ohm/sq and surface resistance of 1×109ohm to 1×1011ohm. A voltage from 5kV to 50V will decay in less than 2 seconds.
Typically, ESD containers are used for the storing of static sensitive items, such as electronics, as it can help protect against the buildup of static, which can cause expensive damage. With dissipative materials, it will ground slower than conductive materials, and static will flow in a more controlled manner, starting with no initial charge or a very low charge. Dissipative materials will help prevent static discharge when humans are in contact with the plastic containers and can help keep the static charge low when containers are being moved around.
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene is a rigid plastic, which creates a sturdy container protecting the contents within it. This high quality ESD material is currently offered in our LABoxx™ plastic box container line. These ABS-BAS cases come in a box shape with a two-part construction maximizing the space being used in storage and shipping areas. With this, the LABoxx™ containers are available in 5 different sizes to ensure customer get the perfect sized container for their ESD environment. The plastic is transparent, allowing a person to see through the container to view what is inside without the need to open it. The LABoxx™ container line and all other ESD plastic containers available on our website are proudly made in the USA and have been since 1984. Foam inserts are also available for a perfect solution to storing and protecting items without them moving around.
All of our dissipative plastic is tested under ASTM D257, ANSI/ESD STM11.11, and FTMS101C 4046.1 before molding at the manufacturer, and the surface resistivity and static decay are reverified after molding using the ACL Staticide 880 and Prostat PDT-740B respectively for their test.
If you have electronics or items that would benefit from being in a static dissipative container, browse the selection of containers offered through lacontainerstore.com for purchasing in bulk or at esdplasticcontainers.com for small volume purchases.
